Navigate Melbourne like a local with our public transport guide.
Trams within the CBD (Central Business District) are completely FREE! You don't need to touch on your myki card if you are only travelling within this zone. Listen for the announcements on board.
To travel on trains, buses, and trams outside the free zone, you need a myki card. You can buy one at 7-Eleven stores, major stations, or use Mobile Myki on your Android phone. Remember to 'touch on' when you board!
Melbourne has the world's largest tram network. It's the best way to see the inner suburbs like Fitzroy, St Kilda, and Richmond. The iconic Route 35 (City Circle) is a heritage tram that loops the city for free.
Metro trains are great for getting to further destinations like Brighton Beach or Williamstown. All city lines converge at the famous Flinders Street Station.
The most popular way to get to the city. Runs 24/7 from Tullamarine Airport to Southern Cross Station. Takes about 25-40 minutes.
Uber, DiDi, and taxis are readily available. Expect to pay $60-$80 AUD for a trip to the CBD.
Not recommended for the CBD due to traffic and hook turns, but great if you plan to visit the Great Ocean Road.
